Don't be Boring

Healthy foods do not have to be boring. While fresh fruits and veggies make a wonderful snack, those aren't the only types of foods that a person can eat while trying to lose weight! If someone sticks to the same type of food repeatedly, it will eventually become boring. They will look for something new, and many times, it happens to be an unhealthy treat! Instead of letting this happen, use some of the following simply recipes to add some variety to dining.

A Tuna Sandwich with Bite

Tuna is a high quality food that has quite a bit of protein as well as Omega 3 fatty acids. It's low in calories and makes a great food item for those who are on a diet. However, a boring old tuna sandwich isn't much fun. When you are making your tuna, make sure that you are using low fat mayonnaise or very little real mayonnaise. Some people don't even add any mayonnaise, and this is a much healthier choice.

When making your sandwich, consider some of the options you have. You can take slices of apple and put it on the sandwich, or you can cut up some pickles and onions to put into the sandwich. A slice of tomato is a nice option as well. Even without the mayonnaise, it will taste great. Make sure that you use whole grain bread. Another option is to forego the bread and to wrap it in lettuce as a wrap instead.

Oatmeal in the Morning is Still King

One of the best breakfast foods available for those who are active and who are trying to lose weight is oatmeal. Packed with energy, it's a perfect way to start the day. However, plain oatmeal has a tendency to get old quick. Slice up some fresh fruit to add to your oatmeal each morning. Change the type of fruit you use to add some variety. Bananas, apples, blueberries and strawberries are all great options. Choose your favorites, and add in some yogurt.

Make Smoothies

Smoothies are one of the best and quickest ways to get the calories and nutrients one needs. They are quite simple to make as well. You can make a smoothie for your breakfast and your lunch and then have a healthy dinner. Use low fat milk when making the smoothie and add your favorite fruits. To get some extra protein, try adding some peanut butter. Here's a quick combination of smoothie ingredients to try. Add your low fat milk, a handful of strawberries, one banana and a tablespoon of peanut butter. It tastes incredible and it's healthy. There is virtually no end to what you can do with smoothies!
